Joyce Hoskins, a 47-year-old woman from Wilmington, NC, was tragically shot to death on December 4, 2005. Her husband, Gradie Lee Rhodes, who was on parole for a previous murder conviction, admitted to killing her. Rhodes, a 58-year-old convicted murderer, was sentenced to life in prison without parole after pleading guilty to first-degree murder in the shooting death of his wife.
This was the second murder conviction for Rhodes, who had previously been convicted in 1989 of killing Avonna Terry, a 21-year-old woman and the mother of his son. Rhodes was released from prison after serving 16 years of a possible 50-year sentence for that murder.
