Robert Pedro Singletary, a 41-year-old man from Winston-Salem, NC, was tragically shot and killed during a home robbery on December 27, 2020. Singletary was at a residence in the 1100 block of Louise Road when several suspects forced their way inside, holding those present at gunpoint with the intention of robbing them. During the robbery, Singletary was shot and despite officers' efforts to perform CPR, he died at the scene.
The investigation revealed that the suspects, including
19-year-old Damien Jordan and 21-year-old Dejunte Dequan Moore, had planned the home invasion. Jordan and Moore, along with other accomplices, entered the home wearing face coverings and armed. Witnesses reported seeing multiple suspects demanding money from those inside. Singletary was singled out and shot by one of the armed men.
Following the incident, both Jordan and Moore were arrested and charged with murder, first-degree burglary, and robbery with a dangerous weapon. Jordan later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and received a sentence of 16 to 20 years in jail. Moore also faced charges and was held without bail.
The motives for the robbery and why Singletary was specifically targeted remain unclear. This case marked the 28th homicide in Winston-Salem for the year 2020, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by the community in addressing violent crime.
