Alexander "Alex" Michael Grubbs, a 29-year-old male from Eden, North Carolina, tragically lost his life on June 27, 2021. Alex was born on March 2, 1992, in Reidsville, North Carolina. He was the son of Robert Earl Corum and the late Amy Grubbs Keaton. Alex's death was a result of a shooting incident that occurred on the porch of a home on Dan River Church Road in Eden.
On that fateful evening, Alex, along with Jordan Lee Gwynn, 27, and Rebecca Fisher Gwynn, 26, were targeted by a shooter who opened fire from a nearby wooded area. Alex and Jordan were pronounced dead at the scene, while Rebecca was critically injured and transported to a hospital.
The investigation into the shooting revealed that Darius Tremayne Brooks, a 31-year-old male from Eden, was responsible for the attack. Brooks was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder, shooting into an occupied dwelling, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. At the time of the incident, Brooks was already being held in the Rockingham County Detention Facility on other charges. The authorities believe that the shooting was not a random act, and Brooks specifically targeted the victims.
