Walter Devon Pouncy, a 38-year-old African American male, was tragically shot to death outside a Speedway gas station in High Point, North Carolina, on July 3, 2021. The incident occurred shortly after midnight when High Point Police Department officers responded to a shots fired call at the location. Upon arrival, they found Pouncy unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts by officers and EMS to save him, Pouncy was pronounced dead at the scene.
The High Point Police Department launched an active investigation into the homicide, but no arrests were made immediately following the incident. Surveillance images of two individuals who were considered persons of interest were released to the public in an effort to gather more information. On July 14, 2021, more than a week after the shooting, High Point police arrested two individuals in connection with the murder. Justin Williams, 39, was charged with first-degree murder, while Janita Grace, 39, was charged with obstruction of justice. Both suspects were taken into custody without incident and confined to the Guilford County Jail. The police continued to await further autopsy information from the Medical Examiner's Office to specify Pouncy's injuries.
