Xamegga Lashanda Whitfield, a 25-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on October 21, 2021, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The incident occurred near Ireland Drive Middle School, where she was fatally shot by her ex-boyfriend, Michael Cintel Culpepper, a 20-year-old African American man. The couple had been in the process of breaking off their engagement when the tragic event unfolded. According to reports, Culpepper shot Whitfield before turning the gun on himself as police arrived at the scene.

Whitfield's injuries were so severe that she was pronounced dead at the scene. Culpepper, who was found on his knees in the middle of the road with a gun in his hands, later died at a nearby hospital. The incident was captured on surveillance footage, which showed Culpepper shooting Whitfield before taking his own life.

Family members of both Whitfield and Culpepper expressed their grief and shock over the incident. Whitfield's sister, Cierra Bell, described her as a smart and amazing person who was everything to her family. Bell also mentioned that the couple had been arguing the night before the shooting, and Culpepper had damaged her mother's rental car during the altercation.

Culpepper's family members also reacted to the murder-suicide, urging others to reach out to loved ones who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts or abusive relationships. Culpepper's aunt, Vonshai Culpepper, described him as a kind and loving young man who had recently enlisted in the U.S. Army. She emphasized the importance of supporting family members going through difficult times.

The tragic incident highlights the devastating impact of domestic violence and the importance of mental health awareness. Authorities urged anyone with information about the case to contact Detective J. Olsen or Crime Stoppers.
