Devonte Cheek, a 24-year-old man from Henderson, NC, was shot and killed on October 30, 2021, outside a Shell gas station on the corner of N.C. Highway 39 and Thomas Road. According to reports, Cheek was exiting his vehicle to enter the gas station when an individual in a dark-colored sedan opened fire and fled the scene. Cheek was pronounced dead at Maria Parham Hospital, while another individual with gunshot wounds was treated and expected to recover.
