Taha Abdalla Babiker was a 54-year-old man from Greensboro, North Carolina. According to his obituary, his service was held at the Islamic Center of Greensboro, and he was laid to rest at the Islamic Cemetery in McLeansville on December 1, 2021.
On November 29, 2021, just after midnight, Greensboro police officers responded to a call about a "person down" on College Road. When they arrived, they found Mr. Babiker suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The subsequent homicide investigation led police to their first suspect, 21-year-old Tyrik Griffin Terrell. He was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, two counts of robbery with a firearm, and second-degree kidnapping. He was placed in the Guilford County Jail and held without bond.
As the investigation continued, a second suspect, a 17-year-old, was also taken into custody. The teenager faced numerous charges, including first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree kidnapping, two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, and conspiracy to commit robbery. In total, Greensboro police arrested four people in connection with the homicide, including a man named Timothy Lee Jones. The case against the individuals charged in Mr. Babiker's death is proceeding through the court system.
