Jakaylen Omarion Chambers, a 14-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on February 1, 2022, in Greensboro, North Carolina. Jakaylen was inside a home playing video games when he was shot. The incident occurred around 12:21 a.m. on McPherson Street. Upon arrival, officers found Jakaylen suffering from a gunshot wound. He was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
The Greensboro Police Department has since been investigating the case as a homicide.
Jakaylen was an 8th-grade student at Guilford eLearning University Prep and had previously attended Eastern Guilford and Jackson Middle School. He was known for his love of video games and his caring nature towards his family and friends. His untimely death has left a significant impact on his community, with many mourning the loss of such a young life.
As of now, there have been no arrests or suspects identified in connection with Jakaylen's murder. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are offering a $5,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest. The Greensboro/Guilford Crime Stoppers have urged anyone with information to come forward and assist in solving this case. The community continues to seek justice for Jakaylen and hopes that the perpetrator will be brought to justice soon.
