However, subsequent investigations led to the arrest of three suspects in connection with the murder of Chavez Laquan Vargas. Joshua Lapree Padgett, a 32-year-old male from Asheboro, was charged with first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery, and possession of a firearm by a felon. Justin Jones, a 21-year-old male from Greensboro, and Nicole Angelina Newby, a 27-year-old female from Greensboro, were also charged with first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy to commit robbery. All three suspects were held at the Guilford County Jail without bond.
