Jayeshbhai Ravajibhai Patel, a 55-year-old Indian man, was tragically killed on June 11, 2022, in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred at a motel on Glenwood Drive, where Patel was employed. On that fateful morning, around 9 a.m., officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call and found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Patel was one of the victims and was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the other victim, also a motel employee, sustained life-threatening injuries.
The investigation revealed that the suspects, Devion De’Maquay Brown, 20, and Tasjah Williams, 22, had entered the motel and attempted to get a room. When they were denied a room due to unavailability, an argument ensued, leading to the shooting. Brown allegedly fired the shots that killed Patel and injured the other employee. The suspects fled the scene but were later apprehended in Leland, North Carolina, over 200 miles away from Charlotte. Brown was charged with murder and attempted murder, while Williams faced charges of felony aid and abetting murder, felony accessory after the fact, assault, larceny, and injury to personal property.
The motive behind the shooting was linked to an argument over a pet rabbit. According to the surviving victim, Brown and Williams were upset about their missing pet rabbit and confronted Patel about it. The situation escalated, resulting in the tragic shooting. Surveillance footage confirmed the suspects' involvement, and they were subsequently extradited back to Charlotte to face charges.
The case garnered significant attention, highlighting the senseless nature of the violence and the impact on the local community. The investigation remains active, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward to help bring justice for Jayeshbhai Patel and his family.
