James Michael Hinson, a 31-year-old male from Charlotte, NC, tragically passed away on August 3, 2022. James, who was known for his love of the outdoors and his dedication to his family, was unexpectedly taken from his loved ones. He was a father to two young children, Kylie and Kiara, and was deeply cherished by his family and friends.
On the evening of August 3, 2022, James was shot and killed in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Nobles Avenue in west Charlotte.
The incident occurred in front of his children, adding to the heartbreak of his untimely death. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and attempted to provide medical assistance, but James was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into James's murder led to the identification of Alexander Weah, a 23-year-old male, as the primary suspect. Detectives from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, the Greensboro Police Department's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team , and officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's VCAT located Weah in Clemmons, NC. During an attempt to serve an arrest warrant, Weah engaged in a shootout with the officers and was subsequently killed. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations is investigating Weah's death, and CMPD has stated that they are not looking for additional suspects in connection with James's murder.
James's death has left a void in the lives of those who knew and loved him. His family, friends, and community continue to mourn his loss and remember the positive impact he had on their lives.
