Alonzo Parker, a 33-year-old African American male, was tragically killed on October 3, 2019, in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred in the late evening at the Sharon Lakes Retail Plaza on Sharon Lakes Road. Parker was fatally shot during an altercation that took place in the parking lot of the shopping center. The confrontation escalated, leading to multiple shots being fired.
Parker was struck by at least one bullet, causing him to crash his Ford Edge SUV into a power pole outside the shopping center. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Medic.
The suspect in the case, Quantez Bazley, a 29-year-old male, was apprehended the following day by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Violent Criminal Apprehension Team and the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force. Bazley was charged with murder, shooting into occupied property causing serious bodily injury, and shooting into occupied property. The police have not disclosed the motive behind the altercation or the nature of the relationship between Parker and Bazley.
The investigation into Parker's death revealed that the shooting caused significant damage to the surrounding area. Bullets went through restaurant windows and hit several cars, although no other injuries were reported. The CMPD has urged anyone with information about the crime to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
