Jailin Tilghman-Deablo, an 18-year-old African American male from Wilmington, NC, tragically lost his life on September 23, 2022. He was shot at the New Hanover Village Apartments on Buckingham Avenue around 3 p.m. and later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. The incident has been linked to gang violence, with the shooting believed to be a retaliation for an earlier gang-related incident that day.
Four Wilmington teenagers were charged with Jailin's murder.
Labron Damarieion Isai Pryor and Damon Stackhouse, both 18, were charged with murder, while Pryor also faced charges of shooting into an occupied dwelling and possession of a stolen firearm. Two 16-year-old boys were also charged and held at the New Hanover County Juvenile Detention Center. The suspects were apprehended after witnesses described a group of individuals wearing dark clothing and masks, leaving the scene in a black Ford Escape. The vehicle was later linked to Ja’Tayvian Hanible, found parked outside co-defendant Jaquan Smith’s house. Inside the residence, law enforcement discovered three guns linked to the shooting, one of which contained Stackhouse’s DNA.
Damon Stackhouse pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, receiving a sentence of 27 to 34 years in prison. The cases for co-defendants Pryor, Smith, and Hanible are still pending. The shooting has been described as a stark reminder of the impact of youth gun violence on the community. Jailin's mother, Domanae, expressed her grief, stating that her son was "hunted down" and murdered just three doors down from their home. The Wilmington Police Department has emphasized its commitment to reducing gun violence and ensuring justice for the victims and their families.
