Venus Bond, a 50-year-old resident of Williamston, North Carolina, tragically lost their life on October 12, 2022. The incident occurred on Poplar Point Road, just outside Williamston, and involved a shooting that also left another individual, Ashaunti Nyquanna Hyman, 20, deceased. A third person, Orvin Orel Hyman, 47, was injured but survived and received medical treatment at ECU Health.
The suspect in the shooting, Daquan Lamar Smith, was identified and sought by the Martin County
Sheriff's Office. After an extensive manhunt, Smith was found in a home next door to the scene of the shooting. He ultimately died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound while in custody at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville. The investigation into the shooting revealed no immediate information on the motive or the relationship between the victims and the suspect.
