Reginald's death was the result of a shooting incident that occurred in the McDougald
Terrace neighborhood of Durham. On the night of the incident, neighbors and residents tried to save him by performing CPR and using first-aid training they had received through a city-organized program called Stop the Bleed. Despite their efforts, Reginald succumbed to his injuries.

According to Durham Police Chief Patrice Andrews, the statistics for young black males in Durham are sobering, as they are often either victims or suspects in violent crimes.
