Keeper Andrew Van Kuren, a 45-year-old male of Caucasian ethnicity, served as the jail keeper of the City Workhouse in New Orleans, Louisiana. On July 27, 1900, he was shot and killed while attempting to apprehend a violent suspect who had murdered two officers three days earlier.
