In the quiet parish of Madison, Louisiana, a dedicated lawman met a tragic and untimely end. Deputy Sheriff J H Kit Carson, a male officer of the Madison Parish Sheriff's Office, was shot and killed on November 16, 1901. His death occurred along the Vicksburg, Shreveport and Pacific Railroad tracks just west of Tallulah, a detail that paints a stark picture of the remote and sometimes dangerous landscape he was sworn to protect.
