Corporal Michael Wayne Ritchie, aged 23, was a dedicated officer with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana. On December 12, 1981, he tragically lost his life while attempting to stop a robbery at a convenience store in Baker, East Baton Rouge Parish. Ritchie, who was in uniform and on his way to work, entered the store to buy coffee when he encountered a suspect robbing the premises.
