Gerald Kevin Simmons, aged 23, was a Corporal with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana. On November 21, 1988, he was shot and killed while monitoring an undercover drug buy from a hotel room. During the transaction, the suspect decided to kill the confidential informant. In an attempt to save the man's life, Corporal Simmons entered the hotel room from the adjoining room.
