Deputy Sheriff Richard Amacker Kent III, aged 37, was shot and killed on November 1, 1985, in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana. He was a dedicated officer with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, having served for 18 years. Kent was killed after arresting a man who attempted to break into a drink machine at Guy's Grocery on Louisiana 38, east of Kentwood.
