Deputy Sheriff Edward Toefield Jr., aged 40, was shot and killed on February 2, 1984, while attempting to arrest a bank robbery suspect in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana. The suspect, Thomas Sparks Jr. , was wanted for robbing a bank in New Orleans and for raping his own daughter. Deputy Toefield encountered the suspect at Hi-Ho Sam's Restaurant and placed him under arrest.
