In the spring of 2008, the burgeoning career of a New Orleans rapper was violently cut short. Michael Allen, a 32-year-old male known in the music world as VL Mike, was fatally shot on the afternoon of April 20th. The incident occurred in the Gentilly neighborhood of New Orleans, specifically in the 4700 block of Miles Drive. Allen had just arrived at the location and was exiting his vehicle shortly before 1 p.m. when an assailant approached and opened fire.
