In the late hours of a Thursday night in October 2013, gunshots shattered the peace on South 6th Street in Monroe, Louisiana, leaving 37-year-old Tiant McGee critically wounded. McGee, a male resident of Monroe, was discovered outside a house with multiple gunshot wounds and rushed to a local hospital, but his injuries proved fatal. Investigators quickly determined that McGee was the victim of a robbery gone tragically wrong, setting in motion an intense effort to bring those responsible to
justice.
The Monroe Police Department's investigation swiftly identified a group of individuals believed to be involved in the fatal shooting. The first arrests came shortly after the incident, as the web of conspiracy began to unravel. Among the initial suspects taken into custody were 21-year-old Kurteasha Jones, 19-year-old Donterius Ballard, and Devonta Henderson. Detectives uncovered evidence and witness statements that implicated them in the plan to rob McGee, a plan that ultimately led to his death.
As the investigation progressed, the net widened to include more suspects. DeMarcus Parsons, 22, turned himself in to authorities in November 2013. The final piece of the puzzle fell into place in early December when a CrimeStoppers tip led to the apprehension of 19-year-old Will Campbell on the 1800 block of South Grand in Monroe. Campbell attempted to flee on foot but was quickly captured. All five suspects faced serious charges, including second-degree murder, armed robbery, and conspiracy, and were booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center with bond for at least one of the suspects set at over $1 million.
