In the late autumn of 2013, the life of 35-year-old Kenneth Barton, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. On the morning of Friday, November 22, his body was discovered in a canal in the 2700 block of Cedar Avenue. Investigators believe that Barton was shot and killed during a break-in at a home.
The investigation into the death of Kenneth Barton led to a swift arrest. Law enforcement identified 33-year-old Corey Pittman as the primary suspect.
State Police apprehended Pittman in St. John Parish following a traffic stop.
Following his arrest, Corey Pittman was set to face a charge of first-degree murder in connection with Kenneth Barton's death. The community was left to mourn the loss of a man in the prime of his life, a victim of gun violence.
