In the late afternoon of a Wednesday in Amite, Louisiana, a long-simmering feud reached its violent end, leaving one man dead and another in custody. On June 17, 2015, 27-year-old Joshua Lee, a male, was shot and killed in a parking lot on Highway 51. The incident, which unfolded in the 400 block of NW Central Avenue, was the culmination of an ongoing dispute between Lee and another man.
At the time of the fatal encounter, Lee was accompanied by his girlfriend.
An argument broke out between Lee and 39-year-old Jermaine Williams, which quickly escalated. Williams allegedly opened fire, striking and killing Lee. His girlfriend, who was present during the altercation, was not injured in the shooting. The Amite police chief later stated that he believed the shooting was the result of the continuing conflict between the two men.
Immediately following the shooting, law enforcement arrived at the scene. Jermaine Williams was promptly arrested and taken into custody. He was subsequently booked on charges of second-degree murder for the death of Joshua Lee and attempted second-degree murder.
