In the quiet community of Labadieville, Louisiana, a devastating event unfolded on August 5, 2015, ending the life of 41-year-old Leigh Anne Richardson Bourgeois. A native of Lafayette, Leigh was a longtime and dedicated employee at the Rouses Corporation in Thibodaux.
On that Wednesday morning, concern grew at her workplace when she failed to arrive for her shift.
A call was placed to the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office around 8:30 a.m., prompting deputies to conduct a welfare check at her home on Highway 308.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement officers made a grim discovery inside the residence. Leigh Bourgeois, her 42-year-old husband Jamie John Bourgeois, and their dog were all found deceased. All three appeared to have suffered fatal gunshot wounds in what investigators suspected was a murder-suicide.
The bodies were subsequently transported to the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office for autopsies to definitively determine the causes of death.
