In the light of a broad daylight October day in New Orleans, tragedy struck when 34-year-old Clarence Johnson was fatally shot. The incident occurred in the 1300 block of Annette Street, cutting Johnson's life short in a sudden act of violence.
The investigation into the shooting led the New Orleans Police Department to identify a teenage suspect. Nas Jackson, 17 years old at the time, became the focus of the homicide case.
Authorities connected him to the shooting death of Johnson.
A dramatic series of events unfolded leading to Jackson's capture. He was in a stolen vehicle that crashed on the Westbank Expressway. In an attempt to evade law enforcement, Jackson leaped from the elevated roadway. His attempt to hide ultimately failed when he was discovered in a dumpster belonging to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. Upon his arrest, he initially provided a false name to the deputies.
In addition to the murder charge in Orleans Parish, Jackson also faced charges in Jefferson Parish for illegal possession of a stolen auto, criminal trespass, and resisting arrest by refusing to properly identify himself.
