On the morning of Wednesday, January 25, 2017, a violent tragedy unfolded outside Mark Twain School for Scholars in southwest Detroit, Michigan. The incident occurred shortly after the start of the school day when 28-year-old Keenan Beard, a Black male resident of the city, arrived at the educational facility located near Visger Street and South Fort Street to drop off his young son.
