In the quiet community of Hammond, Louisiana, the summer of 2016 was shattered by a brutal act of violence that claimed the lives of a beloved aunt and her nephew. Beverly Cherokee Thompson, a 65-year-old woman, was found shot to death outside her home in the 1400 block of Hoover Street in the early morning hours of July 11, 2016.
