In the early morning hours of Saturday, November 12, 2022, in a rural area of Tangipahoa Parish near Hammond, Louisiana, 17-year-old La Raven S. Smith was tragically killed. The incident unfolded on Stevenson Lane, where both La Raven and her 37-year-old mother, Brandy Smith, were found with gunshot wounds. A family member discovered the two victims and placed a 911 call at approximately 2:30 a.m.
Upon their arrival, deputies from the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office pronounced Brandy
Smith dead at the scene. La Raven Smith, a female, was transported to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. The investigation into the double homicide is being treated as a case of domestic violence.
Shortly after the shooting, law enforcement officials took a person of interest into custody. This individual, described as a companion of Brandy Smith, was being held on unrelated charges. Authorities did not publicly release the name of the person of interest pending further investigation, including autopsy results and the securing of a warrant. While a person of interest was identified, authorities did not immediately announce any suspects or a motive in the case.
