In the summer of 2016, a single act of violence cut short the life of HenryLee Varnado, a 36-year-old man, in the Algiers neighborhood of New Orleans. On the evening of July 18th, officers from the New Orleans Police Department were called to a residence on the 1300 block of Teche Street. Inside, they discovered Varnado lying on the floor, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office later confirmed that the cause of death was homicide resulting from the shooting.
At the time of the incident, details surrounding the motive and potential perpetrators were scarce. The New Orleans Police Department's Homicide Division launched an investigation into Varnado's death. It was noted by authorities that Varnado, who was from Carriere, Mississippi, had a history of arrests. Investigators began to explore the circumstances leading up to the fatal shooting, including whether it might be connected to other recent homicides in the area that involved victims with similar backgrounds.
Despite the ongoing investigation by the New Orleans Police Department, with assistance from the Pearl River County Sheriff's Department, there has been no public identification of any suspects in the murder of HenryLee Varnado. To date, no arrests have been announced in connection with the case. The investigation remains open as authorities continue to seek information that could lead to a resolution and provide answers for Varnado's family.
