On Mother's Day, May 14, 2017, a wave of violence swept through Monroe, Louisiana, leaving three people dead, including 36-year-old Florica Green. Green, a female, was tragically shot and killed in a car parked in front of her home. The shooting was part of a drive-by incident that also claimed the lives of 17-year-old Darvis Jones and 60-year-old Deborah Collins.
The investigation into the deadly shootings led authorities to identify a suspect, Deaundrey Cole.
According to reports, the motive behind the shooting spree was believed to be retaliation. A robbery suspect informed police that Jones had allegedly stolen money and cocaine from Cole, prompting the violent rampage.
Following the killings, Cole fled the state. He was eventually apprehended in Portland, Oregon, in January 2018. His arrest came after a traffic stop for reckless driving, during which he initially provided a false identity. However, his fingerprints revealed his true identity and the outstanding warrants for three counts of second-degree murder in Monroe. Cole was subsequently booked into a jail in Portland on local charges, with extradition to Louisiana to face the murder charges pending.
