In the quiet neighborhoods of Monroe, Louisiana, the life of 23-year-old Samarius Colquitt, a Black female, was tragically cut short on a January night in 2021. The stillness of the evening on Jason Drive was shattered by the sound of gunfire, leaving a community in mourning and a family searching for answers. When officers from the Monroe Police Department arrived at the scene in the 2400 block of Jason Drive, they discovered two women suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both were rushed to a local hospital for medical attention.
For one of the victims, the injuries proved to be devastating. Samarius Colquitt succumbed to her wounds, her untimely death ruled a homicide. The second woman, whose identity was not publicly released, survived the shooting. The incident left friends and family reeling, remembering Colquitt as a vibrant young woman whose life was taken far too soon. As they gathered to celebrate her life, they grappled with the senseless violence that had stolen a beloved member of their community.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a suspect. The Monroe Police Department identified Marcanthony Green, a 20-year-old Black male, as the individual they believed to be responsible for the death of Samarius Colquitt and the injury of the second victim. A warrant was issued for his arrest, charging him with one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted second-degree murder. The search for Green came to an end when he was located and taken into custody by law enforcement. Following his arrest, he was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center.
