In a quiet community, a dispute between neighbors escalated into a fatal encounter. Jerry Dean Ramsey, a 53-year-old man from the Tiger Bend community in Union Parish, Louisiana, was shot and killed in February 2018. The tragic event unfolded on a night when his neighbor, David Michael Bull, then 24, alerted Ramsey to the possible presence of trespassers on his property.
This seemingly neighborly act took a dark turn, resulting in Ramsey's death from a shotgun blast.
Following an investigation by Union Parish sheriff's detectives, David Michael Bull was arrested and charged with the murder of his neighbor. The case proceeded to trial, where a jury of twelve peers heard the evidence presented by the prosecution and the defense. In April 2019, the jury returned a guilty verdict, convicting Bull of second-degree murder for the slaying of Jerry Dean Ramsey.
In July 2019, Third Judicial District Court Judge Bruce Hampton handed down the mandatory sentence for second-degree murder. David Michael Bull was sentenced to life in prison without the benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence. The sentencing brought a close to the legal proceedings, ensuring that Bull would serve a life sentence for the death of his neighbor, a tragic and senseless end to a neighborhood dispute.
