In the early morning hours of March 15, 2018, the life of 32-year-old Jermain Aaron, a Black / African American male, was tragically cut short in Opelousas, Louisiana. The fatal incident unfolded at the intersection of Statesman and Adams streets. Aaron was one of two men shot during the violent encounter and succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
The second victim, Patrick Aaron, sustained a gunshot wound to the hip but survived and was later released from the hospital.
Responding to the scene, the Opelousas Police Department launched an investigation into the deadly shooting. Their efforts led to the arrest of 25-year-old Ray Rubin of Opelousas. According to police reports, Rubin and another suspect allegedly entered the home where Jermain and Patrick Aaron were present and opened fire. Following his apprehension, Rubin was booked on serious charges, including second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and home invasion.
The community mourned the loss of Jermain Aaron, who was remembered by his family and friends. His funeral services were held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Washington, Louisiana, followed by his interment at the Garden of Memory Cemetery. He was survived by his parents, a son, a brother, and a sister, along with numerous other relatives and friends. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death continued as authorities sought to bring all those responsible to justice.
