In the early morning hours of Sunday, October 14, 2018, the life of 27-year-old Derrick Lee McGlory of Marksville, Louisiana, was tragically cut short. Known to his friends and family as 'D-Lee,' McGlory, a male, was a passionate artist who found joy in creating music and writing down his thoughts. His outgoing personality was a light to those who knew him.
The night of the incident, McGlory was at Borrel's Lounge on Preston Street in his hometown of Marksville.
At approximately 1:00 a.m., a shooting broke out inside the establishment. When Marksville Police Department officers responded to the call, they discovered two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Derrick McGlory and another man, 20-year-old Taji Simon Jr., were both pronounced dead at the scene by Acadian Ambulance personnel.
In the aftermath of the double homicide, investigators began to piece together the events of that fatal night. Through witness interviews, a suspect was quickly identified as 27-year-old Jimmie McGlory. He was subsequently arrested and booked into the Avoyelles Parish Detention Center on two counts of first-degree murder. At the time of his arrest, law enforcement officials did not disclose a potential motive for the shooting or elaborate on the relationship, if any, between Derrick and Jimmie McGlory.
Derrick McGlory was a father to four children: Derrick Lee McGlory, Jr., D'Leah Nicole McGlory, Derrion Le'chelle Levi, and Bristol De'Brayshia Stanley. He is survived by his parents, Johnny Lee Moore, Sr. and Aretha Moore, his girlfriend Heidi Nicole Dauzat, and several siblings. His funeral service was held on Saturday, October 20, 2018, at the First Congregational Baptist Church in Marksville, with his burial at Cedar Grove Cemetery. The investigation into the shooting was reported to be ongoing.
