An evening in Natchitoches, Louisiana, turned tragic on December 13, 2018, when 23-year-old Robert Griffin, a Black male, was fatally shot. The Natchitoches Police Department received a 911 call around 6:50 p.m. reporting a shooting near the Texas St. Grocery. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Griffin with gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a local medical facility but ultimately died from his injuries.
The Natchitoches Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division
launched an immediate homicide investigation. Their efforts quickly led to the identification of a suspect, Tranndon Jerrod Mitchell. Investigators secured an arrest warrant for Mitchell on a charge of second-degree murder. While a search warrant was executed at his home, Mitchell was not present at the time.
The day after the shooting, on the evening of December 14, 2018, Tranndon Mitchell voluntarily surrendered to the authorities at the Natchitoches Police Department. He was subsequently arrested and booked on the charge of second-degree murder. Following his arrest, Mitchell was transported to the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center to await further legal proceedings.
