Anferenee James Holden, a 22-year-old male, was fatally shot on January 5, 2019, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The incident occurred outside an apartment at The Armstrong apartment complex located at 4600 Burbank Drive. Holden was transported to a local hospital following the shooting, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. At the time of his death, he was employed as a loader for UPS.
The investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of 22-year-old Richard Jiles, Jr.
over a year later, on February 10, 2020. Jiles was charged as a principal to second-degree murder. According to arrest documents, surveillance footage showed Jiles' vehicle following Holden and his girlfriend back to the apartment complex on the night of the shooting. Cellular data also placed Jiles in the vicinity of the crime scene at the time of the incident. Investigators noted that prior to the shooting, Holden and two other individuals were reportedly involved with a significant quantity of marijuana at one of the apartments, though it was not officially stated if this was a motive for the murder. The charge of principal to second-degree murder suggests that authorities do not believe Jiles was the one who fired the weapon. The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
