In the late afternoon of January 29, 2019, a burst of gunfire shattered the calm on Avenue A in Port Allen, Louisiana. When the chaos subsided, 19-year-old Dedrick Jackson, an African American male, was found critically wounded. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he died later that day. The community was left shaken by the violent loss of a young life, and the Port Allen Police began the arduous task of piecing together the events that led to the shooting.
