On the morning of February 16, 2019, at approximately 7:04 a.m., New Orleans police officers responded to a call in the 600 block of Austerlitz Street. Upon arrival, they discovered 31-year-old Irvin Richardson Jr., an African American male, unresponsive inside a pickup truck. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head. Initially classified as an unclassified death, the case was later reclassified as a homicide following further investigation.
