In the early morning of Sunday, February 17, 2019, the body of Marshall Kolby Larks, a 35-year-old Black male, was discovered in a wooded area in the 1100 block of Spanish Town Road in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Investigators from the Baton Rouge Police Department were called to the scene at approximately 9:09 a.m. and determined that Larks had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
At the outset of the investigation, authorities had no known suspects or motives for the killing.
The victim was publicly identified the following day as Marshall Larks of 9337 W. Jamaica Drive. Known to friends and family as 'Hollywood,' Larks was a native of Baton Rouge and a member of the Little Rising Sun Baptist Church. His death prompted an appeal to the public for any information that could lead to the identification of those responsible.
A breakthrough in the case came on February 22, 2019, when Baton Rouge Police arrested a 15-year-old male in connection with the shooting death of Marshall Larks. The juvenile suspect, who was also identified as a Black male, was subsequently booked into the East Baton Rouge Juvenile Detention center. He was charged with first-degree murder for his alleged role in the homicide that had initially left investigators with few leads.
