In the spring of 2019, Jeremy Straughter, a 30-year-old man, was fatally shot in the Algiers neighborhood of New Orleans. The incident occurred on the afternoon of Thursday, April 25, 2019.

Reports from that day indicate that the shooting took place outside the Calvary Baptist Church located on General de Gaulle Drive.
