In the early morning hours of a May day in Baton Rouge, the body of 47-year-old Robert Davis was discovered in the yard of a residence on Convention Street. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. Initially, investigators had no leads, with no known motive or suspects in the immediate aftermath of the discovery.
As the investigation progressed, authorities identified a suspect in the shooting death of Robert Davis.
In July, two months after the incident, the Louisiana State Police Fugitive Task Force apprehended 18-year-old Amaiah Sheppard. Sheppard was taken into custody and subsequently booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a charge of second-degree murder.
Following her arrest, Sheppard, who was pregnant at the time, sought a reduction in her bond. Court documents filed on her behalf indicated a desire to spend the remainder of her pregnancy in a 'stress-free environment' leading up to the birth of her child. The shooting occurred on Convention Street near North 13th Street, where Davis's body was found beside a home. While an arrest has been made, the motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
