On the night of August 22, 2019, in Marrero, Louisiana, 54-year-old Brinte Marcel Williams, a Black man, was found shot to death inside a home in the 4100 block of East Ames Boulevard. The discovery by Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office deputies launched an immediate homicide investigation into the violent end of the San Pedro, California native's life.
The investigation quickly pointed to a prime suspect: 30-year-old Elbert Webb.
Authorities tracked Webb to the Treme neighborhood of New Orleans, leading to a dramatic and prolonged standoff. For seven and a half hours on August 27, 2019, Webb barricaded himself inside a house on North Galvez Street, refusing to surrender to the SWAT team that had surrounded the residence.
Ultimately, the tense situation concluded without further violence as Webb was taken into custody. He was subsequently booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center to face serious charges in connection with Williams' death. The charges filed against him included one count of second-degree murder, obstruction of justice, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The investigation revealed that Webb had a prior criminal history, and his arrest was seen as a significant step in addressing violent crime in the area.
