In the early morning hours of September 29, 2019, in the Little Woods section of New Orleans East, a burst of gunfire shattered the quiet on Anne Marie Court. Twenty-year-old Drake Donahue, a male, was sitting in a vehicle with another person at approximately 4:33 a.m. when two unidentified men, their faces obscured by masks and hands by gloves, emerged from the backyard of a nearby residence and opened fire on the car.
The hail of bullets struck Donahue multiple times.
While the other occupant of the vehicle managed to escape the vehicle and flee the scene on foot, Donahue was gravely wounded. Emergency services were called, and he was rushed to a local hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office later officially identified him on October 7, 2019.
The New Orleans Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the fatal shooting. Detectives have been actively working on the case and have sought help from the public to identify two individuals who are considered persons of interest. However, authorities have clarified that these individuals are not currently classified as suspects. The investigation remains ongoing, and to date, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Drake Donahue. There is no information available regarding any suspects, and the case has not proceeded to trial as no charges have been filed.
