In the early morning hours in a north Baton Rouge neighborhood, a fatal encounter unfolded, leaving a young man dead. The life of 25-year-old Daniel Lewis was cut short by gunfire on a Wednesday at approximately 3:10 a.m. on Pocasset Street. The incident stemmed from arrangements Lewis had made for a massage therapist to come to his home.
The series of events leading to the deadly shooting began when Michael Creel Jr., 31, drove the massage therapist to Lewis's residence.
Upon their arrival, Lewis came outside his home to assist the therapist with her massage table. Another unidentified man also helped bring the table into the house, while Creel remained in the driver's seat of the SUV he had used to transport the therapist.
The situation took a violent turn when Lewis and the unidentified man returned to the vehicle where Creel was waiting. For reasons that remain part of the ongoing investigation, Creel allegedly opened fire from inside the SUV. The gunfire struck Lewis, inflicting fatal injuries. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Creel sped away from the scene.
Law enforcement officials with the Baton Rouge Police Department, in collaboration with the Louisiana State Police Fugitive Task Force, launched a thorough investigation into the homicide. Their efforts led them to identify Michael Creel Jr. as the primary suspect. He was subsequently located and taken into custody. Creel was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, facing a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the death of Daniel Lewis.
