Brandon White, a 34-year-old man, was killed in a shooting in north Phoenix on the afternoon of September 23, 2023, near the intersection of 27th Avenue and Thunderbird Road, in the area of 2700 West Thunderbird Road beneath the I-17 overpass.
According to police, officers were dispatched around 2:19 p.m. after a report that a man had been injured. When they arrived, they found White at the scene with severe trauma, and he was pronounced dead there.
Detectives took over the investigation and determined that the injuries were gunshot wounds, treating the case as a homicide rather than an unexplained death.
As the initial details emerged, investigators publicly described the suspect only as unknown, offering no name, description, or vehicle information in the early releases. Silent Witness distributed a bulletin identifying White as the victim and reiterating that he had been shot and died from his injuries, while investigators continued to seek tips from anyone who might have seen or heard something in the area at the time.
In the days after the killing, the public was urged to come forward with information through Silent Witness, with the promise of anonymity and the possibility of a cash reward if the information led to an arrest. The case was circulated with identifiers used by authorities, including the Phoenix Police incident number 2023-1450164 and the Silent Witness case number 2023-4059, underscoring that the investigation remained active and dependent on witnesses or other leads to move it toward an arrest.
