In the spring of 2020, just days after his release from custody, 33-year-old Glynn McCormick was fatally shot in New Orleans. A male, he was gunned down on Sunday, April 5th, in the Tremé neighborhood, an area police described as his former drug-dealing territory. The shooting occurred in the afternoon, near the intersection of Dumaine and North Broad streets.
McCormick, who was accused of being a leader of a gang known as 'D-Block,' had been released from Orleans Parish Jail only four
days prior. A judge had granted his release on a recognizance bond, a decision influenced by concerns over the spread of the coronavirus within the incarcerated population. This decision was made over the objections of prosecutors, who cited McCormick's dangerous criminal history. Upon his release, he was fitted with an ankle monitor.
On the day of his death, an assailant reportedly pulled up in an SUV, opened fire, and then quickly drove away from the scene. McCormick was found lying on the ground and was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Despite the brazen nature of the attack, police have not publicly identified any suspects, and no arrests have been announced in connection with the homicide. The investigation into his death remains ongoing.
