In the summer of 2020, the life of 16-year-old Jonathan Richard, a male resident of Chalmette, Louisiana, was tragically cut short. On the afternoon of June 16th, Jonathan was found shot and wounded on a porch in the 9100 block of Amour Drive. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but succumbed to his injuries later that evening. Neighbors remembered him as a typical teenager who enjoyed riding his bike and playing football with friends, making his sudden and violent death a profound
shock to the community.
The St. Bernard's Sheriff's Office immediately launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. Their efforts led to the identification of two suspects in connection with the murder of the teenager, who was born on February 16, 2004. A 17-year-old male juvenile from Chalmette was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder.
Authorities also issued an arrest warrant for a second suspect, 20-year-old David Waguespack III of Thibodaux, Louisiana, on the charge of second-degree murder. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Jonathan's death continued as law enforcement sought to bring all those responsible to justice. Known affectionately as 'Tooda' by his family, Jonathan was remembered for a smile that could light up a room and his passion for animals, particularly iguanas, as well as a love for dirt bikes and mini motorcycles.
