In the late summer of 2020, the community of Livingston, Louisiana, was rocked by a violent act that claimed the life of one of its own. On the afternoon of Thursday, September 3, 2020, Darrell Herman Crane, Jr., a 44-year-old male resident of Livingston, was fatally shot. The incident occurred around 1 p.m. near the 28,000 block of Herman Simeon Road.
Following the shooting, the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into the death.
Sheriff Jason Ard confirmed that the investigation was active and ongoing, pending the results of an autopsy. In the immediate aftermath of the event, authorities publicly identified Darrell Crane as the victim but had not released information regarding any potential suspects involved in the shooting. At that time, no arrests had been made in connection with the case.
Darrell 'Herman' Crane, as he was known to loved ones, was remembered as a loving husband, father, son, and brother. His obituary described him as a loyal friend who loved God, enjoyed listening to music, and watching LSU football. He was survived by his wife, Nicole Renee Crane, his children, parents, and brothers. Funeral services were held the following week at Revival Temple Church in the nearby city of Walker.
